What’s new?

The Digital Plant Atlas project has issued several books and atlases over the last 20 years. All images published in these Atlases, as well as unpublished photos, are now available on this website. The photos deal with plants and with traditional agricultural practices and food processing in particular. You can use different ways of searching:

In the Quick search bar you may type a (part of a) scientific plant name and you will get all images of this taxon available in all issues. The images are ordered according to the plant part presented: from seed and fruit to the entire plant, eventually even as part of its own environment.

Entering Scientific Name you can search for images matching any scientific level.

Using the Advanced search, you can choose a taxonomic level, plant parts and/or other features to search in all images. Here you can also limit your search to the collection of a single atlas or a specific combination of atlases.

The Location search provides the possibility to plot the original location of a particular image or sample on the map. Here you may also search for images related to certain objects and processes.

The Reference collection provides an overview of all physically available accessions in the GIA botanical collection with relevant metadata. Some metadata are not public due to privacy reasons.

Each of the atlases and manuals below can be searched separately and combined:

  • Digital Seed Atlas of the Netherlands (2006; 2nd edition. 2012);
